The little engine that could

It's tough to write a lit crit paper, and say what you mean, while arguing that your perception of the book is the true and correct meaning. I have an A in all my other classes and can finish my first semester with a 4.0 GPA, providing I get one in my English class... so I am terrrified! Perhaps that is the problem; knowing that it is so close, and putting excess pressure on myself. Time to recite positive affirmations and continue plugging away. I can write this paper. My thoughts are valid, and I am presenting them in a way that pleases Ms Cheraz. They are clear, meaningful, and true to my thesis. I will succeed. I will succeed. I will succceed.

  1. You already are a success: you have knowledge.

If I could change just one aspect of the educational process, it would be the emphasis on gpa, rather than on learning. The grade is just points, but the education is what you know. Sometimes, we have to walk away from a classroom knowing that we learned more than we ever expected from the experience, regardless of the grade on the transcript.

I can tell you that no one ever looks at the grades you earn during college: they just want to see the completed degree. That, however, is small comfort if your heart is set on a perfect 4.0.

  2. I just want it once... for my own reasons.

However, I completely agree with you, and with running the risk of coming across as though I'm trying to 'butter you up', I feel like I have learned more in your class than any other I have ever had. I appreciate that more than you know! (or that I let on)
